How to use

Follow the directions of your doctor exactly, even if they differ from the usually recommended dosage.  

Overdose

• Severe dizziness
• Fainting
• Prolonged and painful erection (for more than 4 hours)

If you suspect you have taken too much of this medication, you should contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services immediately.

Missed Dose

Notes

Using this medication does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g. HIV, Hepatitis B, gonorrhea, syphilis).

Precautions

• Any allergies
• Penis conditions such as fibrosis or scarring (e.g. Peyronie's disease)
• A history of painful or prolonged erections (priapism)
• Sickle cell anemia
• Blood system cancers (such as leukemia or myeloma)
• Eye problems (retina diseases)
• Kidney or liver disease
• Bleeding disorders
• Active stomach ulcers
• Heart diseases
• Strokes
• Very high or low blood pressure

If you suffer or ever have suffered from any of the above, you may not be able to take Sildenafil Citrate or you may need a dosage adjustment.

To avoid getting dizzy or lightheaded when rising from a seated or lying position, you should get up slowly.

Sildenafil Citrate should not be used by women or children. Elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, so caution is advised for patients from this age group.

Drug interactions

• Nitrate medications (e.g. Nitroglycerin, Isosorbide dinitrate)
• Nitroprusside (any nitric oxide donor medicines)
• Cimetidine
• Erythromycin
• Azole antifungals (e.g. Itraconazole, Ketoconazole)
• Mibefradil
• Rifamycins (e.g. Rifampin)
• High blood pressure medication
• Certain HIV protease inhibitors (such as Saquinavir, Ritonavir, Amprenavir)
• Delavirdine

This list is not complete and there may be other drugs that can interact with Sildenafil Citrate Softabs. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

Common potential side effects of Sildenafil Citrate Softabs include:

• Headache
• Flushing
• Stomach upsets
• Nasal stuffiness
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness

Let your doctor know straightaway if any of the above side effects persist or worsen.

Also inform your doctor promptly should the following unlikely but serious side effects occur:

• Urination problems (e.g. pain)
• Vision problems
• Skin rash

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following very unlikely but very serious side effects:

• Chest pain
• Fainting
• Swelling of the foot or ankle

If you experience a painful or prolonged erection (lasts longer than 4 hours), you should stop using Sildenafil Citrate Softabs immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

This is only a partial list of possible side effects of Sildenafil Citrate Softabs and others may occur. Notify your doctor straightaway if you experience any side effects other than the ones mentioned above, especially if they become bothersome.
