Osteoporosis can be a silent and deadly disease, which often lies undiscovered for a long time. Not only is this in itself a dangerous condition, the fatality rate associated with osteoporosis-related fractures is shockingly high! Raloxifene can drastically reduce these risks by preventing and treating osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It helps preserve and increase bone mass and has been proven to significantly reduce the risk of fractures. And unlike hormone-based medication, Raloxifene is a lot less prone to negative side effects. You might be getting a little older, but your bones don't have to.

How does Raloxifene work?
Raloxifene is a type of medication called Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM). After the menopause, estrogen levels in women drop, which leads to an increase in bone breakdown and a loss of bone density. Over the course of a few years, this could lead to the development of osteoporosis. By mimicking the natural effects of estrogen, Raloxifene gradually reverses this breakdown of bone and makes bones stronger.
Can I drink alcohol while taking Raloxifene?
Alcohol may increase the risk of osteoporosis, so it is recommended to limit your alcohol consumption after the menopause anyway.
Is it safe to use Raloxifene when pregnant or breastfeeding?
Raloxifene is classed as Pregnancy Category X by the FDA, which means it could cause harm to an unborn child. Do not use this medication when pregnant or planning to become pregnant during treatment. If you accidentally fall pregnant while using these pills, you should contact your doctor immediately.

Regardless of the condition being treated, the recommended dosage of Raloxifene is 60mg, taken once daily.
Can I use Raloxifene as an oral contraceptive?
No, Raloxifene should only be used for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. To protect yourself against unwanted pregnancies, you need to use an effective form of birth control.
