How to use
Cephalexin should be taken orally every 6-12 hours, or as directed by your doctor. Cephalexin can be used with or without food, but it is recommended to take this medication with a small meal to prevent an upset stomach. Cephalexin works at its best when there is a constant amount of the medication in your body, therefore you should take Cephalexin at even intervals. Cephalexin should be used for its full prescribed course, even if the symptoms seem to have gone away. Stopping too early can allow the bacteria to grow back.
Overdose
If you have taken too much of this medication, you should contact your local poison control center and/or the emergency authorities immediately.
Missed dose
If you have missed a dosage take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dosage, skip the missed dose, resume your schedule and do not attempt to double up on a dosage.

How does Cephalexin work?
Cephalexin slows down and ultimately stops the building of the cell wall that protects the bacteria. Without this protection the bacteria are exposed to outside components which eventually kill it.
What is the recommended dosage of Cephalexin?
The recommended dosage of Cephalexin for most types of bacterial infection is 250 mg to 1000 mg, taken four times a day for 7 to 14 days. For chronic or more serious infections treatment may have to be continued for a longer period of time. The recommended dosage for children depends on their body weight and ranges from 25 mg to 100 mg per kilogram of body weight per day (mg/kg/day). The Keflex dose is divided and taken three to four times a day for 7 to 14 days. Children should generally be limited to 4000 mg or less per day.
How long does an average course of Cephalexin last for?
How long Cephalexin needs to be taken for, depends on the severity of the infection, but it should be at least ten days.
Are there certain people who should not use Cephalexin?
There are no sufficient studies on the use of Cephalexin by pregnant women. Therefore, women who are pregnant should not take Cephalexin. Women who are planning on getting pregnant should discuss this with their doctor first. Women who are nursing should also avoid Cephalexin due to the negative effect it can have on a newborn baby.
Can Cephalexin be used for other infections than bacterial ones?
Cephalexin is only effective for the treatment of bacterial infections. It has no effect on viral infections, such as the flu or the common cold.
