Men's Health

Impotence
Impotence (or Erectile Dysfunction) is the "inability to obtain and/or maintain a penile erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual intercourse". Males of different age groups suffer from impotence with various effects. Males above the age of 40 suffer at large, but even males in the early 20s and 30s can have impotence problems.

Medical solution for Impotence
Impotence of primary level, also known as low degree impotence, can be treated by improving one’s life style and work habits with out any medical examination. But in more serious cases, it is necessary to consult with a doctor and follow the doctor’s advice with prescribed medication.
Viagra®, Cialis® and Levitra® are three highly effective prescription drugs which work to help treat more serious cases of impotence.

Viagra®

Viagra, the first anti-impotency or erectile dysfunction drug, is manufactured by Pfizer. Viagra contains Sildenafil which is a component that serves to increase the blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increase in blood flow makes it easier to obtain and then maintain the erection. Viagra® takes one hour to work and then works for four hours.

Cialis®

More recently launched, Cialis is an anti-impotence drug manufactured by Lilly ICOS LLC. Cialis starts working faster and stays longer in the body than Viagra (up to 36 hrs). It contains Tadalafil, a component that works by widening the blood vessels of the penis, facilitating an increase in blood flow to the penis. This helps to obtain and then maintain the erection.

Levitra®

Levitra® is another anti-impotence drug which is available in smaller doses compared to Viagra, and starts working in about 30 minutes. Levitra is an inhibitor that helps relax the muscles of the penis, enabling an increase in the flow of blood, making it easier to obtain and maintain an erection. Levitra® was developed and is being marketed through a joint effort by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Bayer.

The myth about impotence is that it is considered a psychological or mental problem. In reality, medical impotence is caused more by physiological factors and less by psychological factors.
In some cases, impotence impedes sexual relation of males with their partners and results in a lower self-confidence and esteem. In these cases, impotence is more related to psychological factors rather than physiological.

Causes of Impotence

Physiological Causes of Impotence
People suffering from diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), heart attacks, strokes, high cholesterol, prostate problems, hormonal imbalance, abdominal injury or surgery have  a higher risk of impotence. People who habitually smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs also suffer from a greater risk of developing signs of impotence.

Psychological Causes of Impotence
People experiencing abnormally high work pressure, stress, anxiety, depression, tension, or with side effects of medicines and insomnia or sleeping disorder, may suffer from impotence. These causes are normally related to today's lifestyle and living habits.
